January 2010
Hi and welcome back. As the new semester begins and we get back to the reality of our daily responsibilities it is more evident than ever before that our active presence in the political arena will be critical. The Westchester Community College Faculty Union will be working to have 100% support for Vote Cope which enables us to support our local and state legislators’. To date we have 33% of our faculty supporting this political action local legislators’ and we need your help. The Faculty Union at the College recognizes the turbulent time that we are living through. However we have a message to deliver telling elected officials about the critical importance of the roles we play in the future of our County and the nation at large. We must support those involved in politics that are committed to helping us in our effort to graduate more students with the skills that will enable them to become productive citizens and taxpayers nationally. Community Colleges are being recognized as the front line in the effort to involve more people in higher education. At the local level it depends on us. We need the funds to tell our story…and to enable the long term funding that is critically needed by our college. Let’s make sure that we financially support legislators’ who have a commitment to our campus. You can either write a check for $104 for the year or automatically deduct $4.00 per pay period from your paycheck. Community Colleges have a major role to play in the future of education and we must ensure that our growing faculty and student body will receive the support of our state and local legislators. We will be contacting you and hope that you will make a significant as possible commitment to this very important effort.
Sincerely, Ellen Zendman, VOTE COPE Coordinator |
